Case study: Tottenham Hotspur - Tottenham

Project: Tottenham Hotspur

Area: 16,000m2

Structural Waterproofing System: AlphaGuard Blueshield Inverted System

The Northumberland Development Project is a mixed-use development project that centres on the building of the new Tottenham  Hotspur Stadium to replace White Hart Lane as the home ground of Tottenham Hotspur. The stadium has a capacity for 62,062  spectators and is designed to host football as well as NFL games. StructureCare was engaged by their client to install 16,000m² of Blueshield PmB structural waterproofing and movement joints to concourses & access ways at The Northumberland Development Project.

The new stadium for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club required an effective and proven waterproofing system at podium level,  joined for complete integrity into waterproof movement joints capable of up to 100mm of movement.

The design and installation of the complete system was achieved using our CPG Europe Group’s internal supply chain for all products. This extended to the installation of the expansion joints by StructureCare’s own highly trained and experienced workforce ensuring the podium level waterproofing envelope was completed efficiently and with complete confidence in its fully tested performance.

Buried after installation, the waterproofing layer was situated some 150mm below the finished paved level, which too required high quality movement joints to accommodate the designed expansion and contraction as well as the considerable footfall on match days.

The Migutrans surface joints had to be mechanically fixed to meet the project specification as well as ensuring the complete integrity of the waterproofing. StructureCare’s internal supply chain and in-house workforce provided the perfect answer.

Mark Blackburn, Divisional Manager of StructureCare said “We are proud of our successful involvement in the New Northumberland Development. Our contracting team has delivered a first class installation of the AlphaGuard Blueshield spray applied waterproofing system, tied to high movement capacity Migupren joints to ensure complete watertight integrity at podium level. Following the application to the podium slab, working for AJ Morrisroe, we were subsequently employed by landscaping package contractor, Carey’s, to install the surface movement joints. The chosen Migutrans range complimented the paving design, tied perfectly with the total waterproofing and joint system below and offered Tottenham assurance of ‘single point’ responsibility for product and installation through our group.
